With the end of the NBA season in sight, the real season is about to begin – the free agency and trade season.
No sport does the off-season better than basketball.
As disgruntled superstars sit at home and think about how they can win a championship with their current team, we the fans think about where they should go next.
There’s three big fish about to hit (or at least we’re hearing they’re about to hit) the trade block.
So here’s where I see them going:
Beal is an intriguing player, I don’t believe he’s good enough to be the best player on a championship team, but he’s a great second option.
I think (and hope) that his time in Washington is up.
He’s given everything to that franchise and although he’s said he wants to win with Washington, I think the realisation will sink in on just how far off they are.
With that in mind, I think the Heat is a great option.
As a pure basketball fit – he, Butler and Adebayo would have great chemistry.
They also have a lot of young talent to trade away; Herro, Robinson and Nunn.
Throughout Dame’s career he’s always said he wants to build and win rather than join or make a super team.
But enough’s enough, how many first round knockouts can he handle?
He’s going to (finally) demand a trade.
I think the Lakers making a big push for him, although I’m not sure they have enough pieces to trade for him.
Cue, the 76ers.
After Ben Simmons unwillingness to shoot the ball, it’s no secret that he finds himself on the trade market.
I think a new start would be good for Simmons – and Dame with Embiid is a legit title threat.
The 76ers would have to give other pieces away and future picks, but trading a few 25cent pieces in exchange for a Dame Dolla is well worth it.
Firstly let me start by saying I don’t think Steph is going anywhere.
The Warriors drafted him, he’s won three titles and two MVPs there – but just for fun, let’s speculate.
Reports have come out about Lebron taking Steph out for dinner and trying to recruit him, Lebron has been playing GM for a good portion of his career so this doesn’t surprise me.
Sadly I don’t think the Lakers have enough to trade for Lillard, so Steph is a long way out of the picture.
But I could see the Clippers coming to the party.
I think Kawahi wants out of LA, but that doesn’t mean a sign and trade isn’t a possibility.
Kawhi with Draymond and Klay, two other players who have zero ego and just care about winning would be a great mix while on the other side, Steph and PG13 I think would work well.
Steph brings natural leadership too, an area I feel Kawhi is lacking.
Whether some other pieces are thrown in because of Kawhi’s health or not would be interesting.
Again, I think this is a long shot, but I just can’t see Steph going anywhere (if he leaves at all) other than LA, and the Lakers for me just don’t have nearly enough to make any big-time trades.
