China Bans Online Gaming For Kids Under 18-Years-Old During The Week, In An Effort To ‘Boost Productivity’

As if China needed to be more productive…

The Asian country has barred online gamers under the age of 18 from playing on weekdays and limited their play to just three hours on weekends.

It comes as the latest escalation of restrictions on the country’s massive gaming industry, a weird shift for a nation that leads the way in that space.

Starting this week, minors will be allowed only an hour of play time between 8pm and 9pm on Friday, weekends and public holidays.

Previously, kids were restricted to play just 90 minutes max on weekdays and three hours on weekends.

Authorities said that the restrictions were put in place to help prevent young people becoming addicted to video games.

Ina. statment published to the countries national watchdog website, the hope was that by removing “unnecessary distractions” children would become more productive.
