State Of Origin: Who We’d Loved To Have Seen Play Origin, If The Eligibility Rules Were Relaxed

He’s a fun thought experiment.

If Origin eligibility rules were relaxed, historically, who would you have loved to see play in the game’s toughest arena?

If Kiwis and English players were set loose, who could’ve made the best fist of things? Ice and Scope give us theirs.

Scope: Sam Burgess

Made for that arena.

Sammy’s GF hit up against jimmy Graham is iconic and if NSW had him through that decade of dominance, I dare say a lot of things would’ve played out differently.

Ice: SBW

Proper ’04-05 Sonny, when the shoulder charge was still around. He would’ve dominated.

Scope: Kieran Foran

My mate Fozzy. I know at one point in time he was approached by NSW but obviously, chose the Kiwis.

But through that period when Pearce was cycling through a few different halves partners, his mate Fozzy would’ve provided a bit of stability there for him.

And in terms of an “Origin Player”, Fozzy is it.

Ive: Tuivasa-Sheck

I don’t know who he would play for? probably NSW given his Roosters connects. But RTS is made for that arena.

It would be dope to just throw the 1 on his back, or park him on the wing for one last crack before he leaves for union.

Scope: Stacey Jones

I don’t know where you’d fit him in because obviously that was the Joey, Fittler, Lockyer era – but I would’ve loved to have seen the Little General get a crack in origin.

I still think he gets underrated when people talk about the great halves of all time, he’s right up there.

Ice: Ali Lauiti’iti

The Michael Jordan of rugby league. Say less.

In that little period, ’02-’05 there was nobody like Ali.

And nobody like him playing in Origin at that time.

Who would you have loved to see get a crack?
